No Polar Vortex In Florida

As I was listening to the news about the polar vortex that may be coming, it got me thinking about the weather. No, I wasn’t worried about blizzards in Florida, but rather are we ready for better weather? What happens if the return of warmer weather and the increase in vaccinations gets life closer to normal faster than we think?

Optimism is growing. Some are forecasting rapid rises in productivity and sharp unemployment drops. The travel industry is preparing for cabin fever induced demand, while retailers are hoping for “revenge shopping”. New restaurants are being planned. Personal savings rates are still high; consumers have lots of cash to spend. And the world is looking to make up for lost time.

McKinsey & Company estimates that additional government investment (which it sounds like the new administration plans to make) could bring forward the Pandemic’s end in the US within 3 – 6 months.

So, what does that mean for our industry? Are we ready for a faster than expected rebound? What if the VA comes back quickly? Are there enough resources directed in the right place to handle a quick bounce?

My view is that it won’t be quite as fast as some are hoping for, but nothing surprises me anymore. This time feels different. I hope it is.

Time to start preparing.
